Buddy
ADOPTED!! This is Buddy. He is a very sad 10 month old light wheaton wire hair doxie whose owner took him to the kill shelter after being ignored in someone's back yard. Buddy may have been an unwanted Christmas gift. Buddy is a very sweet loveable guy who needs a home where he will be loved and appreciated. Buddy weighs about 15 lbs so would be considered a tweenie. He gets along with other dogs, loves to go for walks and rides in the car. He wants to be someone's special boy. Buddy is up to date on shots, is micro-chipped and neutered.

Sad, sad update here.

Puppers

Puppers
ADOPTED!! This is Puppers. He not only needs a new home, he needs a new name. Puppers ended up in a kill shelter. He was adopted 2 months ago but the person who adopted him decided she didn't have time for him, something she should have thought about before she stopped rescue from adopting him from the shelter. When she decided she didn't have time for him, she returned him to the kill shelter for a refund. And now he is with me and he will never be returned to the shelter because finding him the perfect home is my goal.

Puppers weighs about 12 lbs and is an absolutely beautiful deep red doxie boy. He is not much more than a year old. Based on the fact that he has been bounced around so much in his short life already, he has had no consistency, and more than likely no one has taken time to train him in any way. So adopting Puppers would be like adopting a puppy, you have to start from scratch with lots of love and patience.

Puppers loves to go for walks, gets along with friendly, non-aggressive dogs although he didn't like a Chihuahua who pounced on him and wanted to eat the Pit Bull at the dog park. Good luck with that Puppers.

Puppers is a very sweet loveable boy who needs a young playmate and an active lifestyle at his young age. He can handle long walks/runs. Puppers would be great with a young small girlfriend to play with. He needs a very secure yard and a home with lots of love and patience who's willing to turn him in to the fabulous dog he can be. He is young enough to learn anything.

Danny
ADOPTED!! This is Danny. He is a 2 year old black and tan neutered male who is in need of a new forever home. Danny is loved very much in his current home, but his mom feels with a full time job, busy evenings and no other dogs, that Danny is not happy and is living a lonely life. She feels Danny would be happier in a home with more attention and possibly another dog to keep him company.

Danny is an awesome dog. He is laid back, easy going, loves everyone including kids and other dogs. He is truly a beautiful boy and will make a great companion dog. He loves to go for walks and loves to ride in the car. He is up to date on all his shots.

Tawny
ADOPTED!! This is Tawny (formerly known as 'Penny'). We don't know what crime she committed to end up in the local shelter, but end up there she did. But now she's out and looking for a real forever home.

Tawny is a large tweenie or a small standard who currently weighs about 16 lbs. She is too thin and would need to put on a pound or two, which won't be hard for a doxie. Tawny is 2 years old, up to date on shots and spayed, of course.

Since Tawny just came out of the shelter, we don't know if she's housebroken, gets along with other dogs, cats, etc. She is currently in a foster home and as her foster dad learns more about her, we will update her bio.

Torrey

Torrey
ADOPTED!! Torrey is a 5 year old beautiful long hair lady who was brought to the local kill shelter in terrible condition. Her beautiful long hair was shaved, her toenails were curled into her feet so she couldn't walk, she was overweight and her teeth were in horrid condition.

She wasn't spayed and the poor thing had tumors that needed to be removed. But she has forged ahead and has lost some weight, and is learning how to walk all over again without pain. She has been spayed, had her teeth cleaned and is up to date on her shots.

Torrey is a very low energy lady who would love a calm quiet home to live in with people who will love her and treat her like the lovely lady she is.

Torrey

Danny
ADOPTED!! Danny is a 2 year old neutered black and tan doxie who ended up in the shelter despite the fact that he appeared to be well-cared for. Danny weighs about 14lbs. He is a happy-go-lucky guy, very sweet, and calm. He loves people and enjoys walking on a leash. He rides well in a car and loves to go bye-bye. Danny has a lot of good qualities not to mention he's a great looking dog. It's hard to believe he ended up in the shelter and no one came for him.

Sweetie
ADOPTED!! Sweetie is a 2 year old red smooth female that was found as a stray and ended up in the local shelter. She is very sweet and very friendly and needs a new loving home.

She is spayed and up to date on shots. Not much else is known about her at this time since she is not due out of the shelter until Jan 7th.

BlackJack
ADOPTED!! BlackJack is a beautiful 3 year old solid black doxie who was found running scared. Some kind people took him in but unfortunately, Jack didn't like their cats. Jack is a little too thin, timid and shy due to his previous lifestyle but is a loving boy once he earns your trust. He may require some training since it appears no one has ever spent time with him. Jack is neutered and up to date on shots.

Dudley
ADOPTED!!!   Dudley is approximately 1 year old. He is a standard black and tan boy who ended up in the shelter with some dog fight wounds. Poor Dudley was bandaged up waiting for someone to come and adopt him. Dudley's wounds are all healed now but the experience has left Dudley not liking big dogs. He loves people and is good with kids and is a very sweet boy. Due to his lousy previous life, he probably needs some work on his housebreaking. Dudley is up to date on his shots, enjoys walking on a leash and riding in a car.

Lily
ADOPTED!!!  Meet Lily. She is a 3 year old red smooth female who would be considered a large tweenie or a small standard. She's a bit long in the legs but a very sweet girl. Lily lived with her mom and another doxie since she was a puppy in a house with a yard and a doggie door. But recently Lily's family moved to a condo where Lily only had a very small area. Being a young active dog, her lack of exercise made her frustrated. So her owners thought Lily would be happier if she could find another home with a secure yard and a doggie door like she's used to. Lily is spayed, of course, and up to date on her shots. She walks well on a leash and is housebroken. She is a very sweet girl, but doesn't like cats.

Holly
ADOPTED!!!   Holly is a 10 year old senior who found herself in a no kill shelter after her owner apparently died. She is a red smooth female, is up to date on all her medical needs, shots, teeth cleaning etc. She is spayed and likes to go for walks on a leash and rides well in the car. Her favorite thing is sleeping on someone's lap or laying beside her person on the couch. Holly gets along well with other dogs. She is a bit vision and hearing impaired. Holly has a good appetite but her favorite thing is chicken. She knows how to use a doggie door and is crate trained.

Jazzy
ADOPTED!!  Jumpin' Jazzy is a 2 year old red smooth 8 lb mini with black over lay. She is absolutely the sweetest most affectionate dog and wants to be in your lap all the time. But Jazzy wasn't appreciated by whoever had her because she had to chew through a wire cable attached to a heavy clip to get out of her hellish life and run away. She was found by a caring dog lover who took her to the vet to attempt to find her home. No one came to claim her so Jazzy was turned over to rescue to find her a new and loving home.
Jazzy is spayed, up to date on shots, teeth cleaned and ready for a new home. Jazzy gets along with other dogs and jumps and jumps to get up in your lap. Be prepared for a dog that wants to be held all the time which is easy since she weighs so little. Jazzy snuggles up and just wants the love she has been missing.
Honey ADOPTED!!  Honey is a a 3 year old standard wheaton wire Dachshund who weighs about 21 lbs. Honey has lived her entire life in a breeding kennel and is very, very shy. She is a sweet girl but needs a calm quiet home where they will be patient with her and give her time to learn to trust, work with her housebreaking training, and to come out of her shell and be the wonderful sweet loving dog she really wants to be. Honey is not used to walking on a leash but is eager to learn and will enjoy being a house dog in the right home. Honey would not be good in a home with young children as she is too bashful. Honey is spayed and up to date on shots.

(Honey was formerly known as "Betty")
Twitch ADOPTED!!  Twitch was taken to the local shelter by his homeless owner who could no longer care for him. The twinkle in his eye and the smile on his face told us he was a special boy. Twitch is a 5 1/2 year old standard dapple wire hair Dachshund who loves everybody. He is absolutely the sweetest boy. Twitch weighs 24 lbs and needs to lose at least 4 lbs. While in foster care he will get a more sensible diet than he's probably been getting and will lose weight easily. Of course, Twitch is neutered.
Twitch gets along with other dogs, loves people and enjoys going for walks or riding in the car. He knows how to use the doggie door. He's just an all around happy sweet boy.
Barney ADOPTED!!  Barney is a 3 year old standard wheaton wire Dachshund who has lived his life in a kennel used for breeding. Barney is now neutered, up to date on shots and ready to learn how to be a housedog and a pet. Barney weighs about 31 lbs and is a beautiful dog. He is outgoing, playful, loves to play ball, and likes well behaved kids who will not pull his ears or his tail. He gets along with other dogs. Barney likes going for rides in the car. He is not used to walking on a leash but is eager to learn. Since he's lived in a kennel all his life, Barney needs help with his housebreaking so he needs a loving patient home where they are willing to make Barney the best dog he can be.
Bosco ADOPTED!!  Bosco is a red smooth male between 2 and 3 years old, up-to-date on shots, and neutered. Bosco found himself in the shelter where he was crammed in with many other dogs. Because Bosco wasn't able to get his share of the food, he got very skinny in the 6 days he was there. Bosco loves to play with other dogs and would love to live in a house with a playmate. Bosco may need some help with his housebreaking. He is bashful, but once in a comfortable home will be a wonderful cuddly loveable boy when he has a family to love him. Bosco is learning to walk on a leash and is good riding in the car.
Roxy ADOPTED!!  Roxy is a one year old black and tan tweenie with a beautiful white patch on her chest. Roxy's owners meant well but they didn't give Roxy any of the things she needed to become a well-balanced happy dog. Roxy lived in an apartment with no yard and never got taken for walks, was not spayed and was not given the attention she needed. Therefore, Roxy became shy, nervous, skittish and unsocialized. But she is very sweet when she knows she can trust you, loves to go for walks and is absolutely worth working with. Roxy needs a family who will give her a brand new beginning with a secure yard, nice walks where she can be around people and other dogs to learn there is nothing to be afraid of. A submissive male doxie would be a good companion for Roxy. Roxy rides great in the car, gives kisses and is a very sweet bashful girl.
Roxy
ADOPTED!!
Molly
Hello! I'm Molly!
We are 6 month old brother and sister doxies and we are as cute as can be. We started out in a pet store in Colorado and stayed there for months until a very nice lady came along and just couldn't stand seeing us cooped up in there anymore and "got us freed". She put us on a plane and brought us to CA with her and gave us to a nice rescue lady. Now we are looking for our permanent home. Like I said, we are very cute and we just love running and playing and playing and running. We like to wrestle, too. We put anything we find into our mouths so the nice rescue lady moves everything up out of our way. We also have to learn to only potty outside. The nice rescue lady is showing us how. We would love a home and a family of our own with a nice fenced in yard to run and play.
If you are interested in adopting us, please fill out an application. Our adoption fee is $450 for both of us (we are way too attached to one another and cannot be separated).
We have been spayed and neutered, heartworm checked-both of us are negative-and are up-to-date on all of our shots (ouch). We are all ready to entertain a new family, as only puppies can. We will make you laugh. But keep in mind, the rescue lady said we are a lot of work and need lots of time and attention to become really good grown up doxies. Isn't that what everyone wants?
Joey
And my name is Joey! Hi!
Toby ADOPTED!!  Toby is a 7 year old neutered male whose current owner works long hours and is no longer able to care for him. Toby is now having to stay outdoors at a relative's house and it's getting cold in the evenings. Toby is a long tweenie and weighs about 16 lbs. He is the sweetest boy and travels perfectly in a crate in a car. He walks well on a leash and really loves being an indoor dog and sleeping in the big bed.
Toby is up to date on shots and in excellent health. He has a beautiful soft coat, gets along with other dogs and is an all around great dog.
Hershey ADOPTED!!  Hershey is a beautiful chocolate and tan long hair male mini doxie who was rescued from the shelter approximately 2 years ago and adopted to a young couple. The couple now have a new baby and Hershey is not behaving well around it.
Hershey is approximately 3 years old, he's housebroken, gets along and lives with other doxies and larger breed dogs. He loves to ride in the car and is an all-around great little dog. However, he doesn't like babies. Hershey needs a home with no young children under 10 years old and not a home with a young couple who plan on having children in the future.
Tanner ADOPTED!!  Tanner is a male doxie between 2 and 3 years old. He is neutered and up-to-date on shots. He is either 95% doxie or a poorly bred long hair doxie. Tanner loves to play with other doxies, loves going for walks and will do best with a young teenager who can take him for walks and runs. Tanner needs a secure fenced-in yard where he cannot dig out. Tanner is housebroken and is ok with kids. Tanner
Special Doxies with Special Needs
Chip & Beau ADOPTED!!  Chip & Beau were transported from Texas and have ended up in 4 different rescues without securing a home. They are very timid and shy but absolutely wonderful boys. They are totally bonded and cannot be separated. One is 3 years old and the other is 5 years old. They are neutered and updated on shots. They need a calm, quiet, special home with no young children. One is more outgoing than the other and it will take time for the one to come around but in the right home with lots of TLC, in time he will.
Princess ADOPTED!!  Princess is a red smooth spayed female approximately 5-6 years old. She is very sweet and friendly, gets along with other dogs. She is up to date on her shots, rides well in the car, but seems to be very selective about the home she chooses to be in.
Princess was adopted out of a shelter a year ago by a senior couple who later felt they could no longer care for her so brought her back to the shelter. Although Princess is friendly, she doesn't warm up to everyone. She's kind of standoffish with certain people. Princess requires a home with a doggie door or in a home where someone is home with her all the time. As Princess is so selective about where she wants to live, and has behavioral issues if she's not happy, a trial stay may be required.
Fritz And Freckles
ADOPTED!!
Freckles  Freckles and Fritz are 5 year old piebald littermates. Their family is moving so they were given up at the local shelter. They weigh about 10 lbs and are very sweet cuddly boys. They are neutered and up to date on shots. They like to go for rides, go for walks and play with a tennis ball. They may need some potty training since it's possible they were kept as outdoor dogs.
They can be adopted together or separately. If adopted separately, they need to be placed in a home with another doxie or small dog for a companion since they've never been an only dog.
Fritz
SPECIAL NEEDS DOXIE!!
Penny ADOPTED!!  Penny was found as a stray in April of this year walking. Two ladies found her and told the Santa Maria shelter that they were going to keep her. One month later she couldn't walk so the ladies surrendered her to the shelter. She is actually microchipped and it was traced back to a breeder in Florida who sold her to a petstore. The breeder is no longer in business so it was probably a puppy mill :( Penny was foster at the shelter for awhile and then they asked AFRP if we could. An organization down there raised money for her wheelchair. I have had her for about 3 weeks. I was told to induce her about every 4-5 hours and that way she doesn't have accidents. (She still does sometimes though) She sleeps in her crate at night and rides very well in the car. She likes dogs and cats. She like children and women but is scared of men. I am fostering her in Watsonville, Ca. She only uses her wheelchair when we go outside or to Petsmart :) Around the house she gets along just fine dragging herself. She is 2 years old and weighs 9lbs. She is going to be spayed and have a dental this Wednesday
Pepper ADOPTED!!  Pepper is a 2 year old doxie mix female with a very high energy level. Pepper's owner has moved into a new place that is too confining for Pepper's energy. She needs a nice size yard to run and play in. Pepper is spayed and up to date on shots. She gets along with other dogs and some cats but not all. It depends on the cat.
Lincoln ADOPTED!!  Lincoln is a very nice looking boy approximately 4 years old. He was found roaming in a rural area near here by the staff of an animal hospital. All attempts to locate his owner failed, so the vet called rescue rather than taking him to the local shelter. Lincoln must have had a good home because he appears to be well cared for and housebroken. He is in excellent health. Lincoln is neutered and up-to-date on shots. He weighs about 15 lbs. and is a l-o-n-g doxie.
No information is known at this time if Lincoln gets along with children or cats, but he does get along great with other doxies. He walks well on a leash and loves go-for-a-rides, during which he is well-behaved. An experienced doxie home would be preferred for Lincoln. He growls when approached by strangers but is friendly once he feels comfortable with you. He would not be good in a house with children, where his growling might be misinterpreted.
Lucky ADOPTED!!  Lucky, affectionately called Ducky because he waddles, is a 10 year old neutered long hair male whose owner dumped him at the shelter in terrible condition. More than one person had tears in their eyes when they saw him. Lucky has been in foster care for about a month and he is feeling a whole lot better than before. His missing hair is growing back, his teeth have been cleaned and his sores are all healed and gone. He is up-to-date on shots and has had x-rays to rule out any serious problems.
Lucky is such a sweet, loveable boy, he's no trouble, he's neutered, housebroken if access to outside is easy. He cannot manipulate a difficult doggie door. Lucky loves to spend his days sleeping in a nice cushy doggie bed but at night prefers the big bed.
If you have room in your heart and your home, please consider giving Lucky a loving home to spend his senior years.
Ronny ADOPTED!!  Ronny is an absolutely beautiful one year old red smooth doxie who should weigh about 13 or 14 lbs. He is very underweight and very, very scared. He seems to have been mistreated, therefore, is extremely shy. Now that he is in rescue he will come out of his shell and learn about the "good life". Ronny is neutered and up-to-date on shots. He is very sweet but needs a calm quiet environment in order for him not to be a nervous dog. He is learning to be held and loved and seems to enjoy it so far.
Ronny probably needs work on his housebreaking since his previous owners didn't seem to do anything right with him. In the proper home, Ronny will be a wonderful dog. No information is known at this time whether he gets along with cats or kids but he does get along with other doxies. (For the record, that is not blood on Ronny's head.)
Dolly ADOPTED!!  Dolly is an 8 year old black and tan female who found herself in the local shelter through no fault of her own. Dolly is very sweet and shy. Nothing is known about her past history, possibly her owner passed away and no family member wanted to take her in. Dolly is spayed, up-to-date on shots and housebroken.
Rascal ADOPTED!!  Rascal is a 6 year old black and tan boy whose owner passed away leaving all of her dogs homeless. Rascal and Melissa are buddies but can be adopted separately. Rascal needs to be in an only dog home or with females only due to the fact that he was not neutered until recently and he is competitive with other males. He wants the girls all to himself. I think Rascal is a smooth although his coat is very rough and in poor condition so he could be a wire. A few weeks of good food and vitamins will improve his coat so we can tell what he is for sure. Rascal was kept outside so he does need some work on his housebreaking issues.
Rascal is very sweet, loves to sit up and beg, is great in the bath, and loves attention. He is also fine around kids. He is up-to-date on shots and has had his teeth cleaned.
Doobie ADOPTED!!  Doobie is a beautiful 2 year old smooth piebald who has spent his life outdoors. He only weighs between 8 and 9 lbs but his ideal weight would be about 11 lbs. His owner recently died leaving Doobie and 3 other doxies, all unspayed and unneutered, homeless. All the dogs were severly neglected and all ended up in the local shelter. Doobie is very affectionate and gets along well with 2 of the 3 dogs he was with but is competitive for the female's attention with one of the other males. He would best be placed in a home with females or no other dogs unless tested with another male. Doobie enjoys attention and is ready to start a new life as an indoor well-cared-for dog. Due to living outdoors his entire life, Doobie needs work on his housebreaking issues. Doobie is neutered and up-to-date on shots.
Alex ADOPTED!!  Alex (shown here fresh from a much-needed bath) is a beautiful 4 year old long hair dapple boy whose owner died leaving him homeless. Alex weighs about 9 lbs but his ideal weight should be about 11 pounds. Alex is shy and reserved but enjoys affection once he comes around. TLC is just not something he's used to but he's sure willing to learn. Alex is a sweet boy who needs a calm, quiet home where he can learn to be an indoor dog. Due to not being neutered earlier and living outdoors, he's never been taught housebreaking skills. He needs love and patience and lots of good nourishment to be the beautiful dog he can be. Alex is now neutered and up-to-date on shots.
Ginger ADOPTED!!  Ginger & Gilligan are two very sweet 6 year old littermates who are in need of a new home. Mom & Dad work all day and are gone on week ends and just don't have enough time to spend with these precious babies. They are friendly, healthy, spayed & neutered, housebroken, up to date on shots and get along with other dogs, people and kids. They are truly 2 special little well behaved doxies. They have always been together so cannot be separated. They currently have a very large yard so would need a home with a fenced yard. They know how to use a doggie door. These dogs would be wonderful company for anyone who has time to spend with them. Gilligan
Pudge ADOPTED!!  Pudge is a very sweet female approximately 6 years old. She has had several names but her foster home is currently calling her Pudge because she is a tad overweight.
Pudge was dumped at a shelter to be put to sleep, but a local rescue felt she was worth saving and adopted her out and called Dachshund Rescue. Pudge has been tested to make sure her weight problem is not a medical issue and that she just needs to "cut back". Pudge is spayed, up to date on all her shots and has had her teeth cleaned. They were really yucky.
She does need some work on her housebreaking issues and we think she may have been kept outside and never allowed to be a house dog. Now that she's inside, she wants to stay inside. She loves sharing a recliner with her foster dad. She is very much a lap dog.
Pudge will make someone a wonderful & loving companion. With a good healthy diet and lots of love, Pudge will shine.
SAD UPDATE: Not long after her foster home adopted her, sweet Pudge went to The Rainbow Bridge.
Coach ADOPTED!!  Coach is a 10 month old, very sweet, doxie mix. Coach has a wonderful silky coat, is neutered, up to date on shots, and gets along with other dogs. He likes kids, likes to go for walks, likes to go for car rides and is an all-around sweet boy. He will make a wonderful family pet. Due to his young age, Coach may need continuous housetraining. Coach is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night. He has been trained with a doggie door.
Priscilla ADOPTED!!  Priscilla is a very beautiful, slightly overweight, 2 year old doxie who appears to have been well cared for prior to finding herself in the local shelter. She was wearing a pretty collar and we thought for sure her family would come for her but no one did.
Priscilla is very sweet, friendly, outgoing, loves to go for rides, uses a doggie door, gets along well with other dogs and is just an all-around wonderful, sweet and very beautiful girl. We have no knowledge of how Priscilla is with cats. Based on her personality so far, she may be ok with kids. Priscilla's perfect weight should be around 16 or 17 lbs, however, she is a bit chunky and is working on a healthier diet to trim her down.
Nana ADOPTED!!  Banana is an approximately 8 month old precious little girl who found herself in the local shelter. Banana (Nana for short) is very sweet, gets along with other dogs, loves to go for rides and walk on a leash. Nana is still in her puppy stages so she needs toys to chew on, and a home where they will continue with her housetraining. She will use a doggie door and will go to the door to be let out. Nana likes to sleep in the big bed. She is playful and still has a lot of puppy in her so needs a home with another playful dog and a family who has time to spend with her and continue her training.
Sandy ADOPTED!!  Sandy is a two year old mini long hair boy who ended up in the local shelter. Sandy is very underweight but will fill out with a good diet at his foster home. Sandy is very loving, very calm and very, very sweet. He gets along well with other dogs, and even though he has been neglected, he hasn't lost his faith in humanity. He still loves people. Sandy should weigh about 11 or 12 lbs at his perfect weight.
Susie And Jessie ADOPTED!!  Susie and Jessie's 75 year old mommy is dying of cancer and they desperately need to find a new home. They are 4 year old Dachshund/Chihuhua mix siblings. Altered and current on all shots, they have been very well taken care of. They need a home together.
Because of the nature of this disease we're not sure how much longer their mommy has. But we do know it is getting harder & harder for her to take care of them. She's afraid if she dies her kids will end up in a shelter because she has no family.
This is a desperate situation adding so much more stress on someone who is already dying. If you can find room in your home and your heart for these sweet dogs, please help.
Dappy ADOPTED! Dappy is a beautiful 3 1/2 year old male dapple who was given up by the only home he's ever known because his owner is terminally ill. Dappy is very insecure and because he was very spoiled by his previous owner, he very much prefers women. We tried adopting Dappy to a home with a male owner and it didn't work out. Dappy is fine with my husband so he may be selective about the men in his life. Dappy gets along with other dogs, is housebroken, doggie door trained and does tricks when given treats.
Dobbie ADOPTED! Dobbie was found about a year ago, wandering in the street, by a nice, elderly couple. Dobbie (pronounced “Dough-Bee”) had a big, nasty wound on his side, as if a bigger dog had bitten him. They rushed him to the emergency hospital and got him all fixed up. Now he’s all better, but he’ll always have a scar on his side. His new parents wanted to keep him, but as they live on a fixed income, they just couldn’t afford a dog. They contacted Dachshund Rescue and asked us to find a good home for their little boy.
Dobbie is so smart! In only three days, he’s already learned “sit” and “stop” (for barking), and he’s completely housetrained. An active, lively dog, Dobbie is great on his harness and leash and loves walks with his human, “goferarides” in the car and trips to the dog park. He’s very affectionate and loves to snuggle in a lap and give lots of kisses. Unlike some rescued dogs, Dobbie loves men, so he really wants a Daddy. He’d also like a Mommy, but won’t complain if there isn’t one available. Dobbie doesn’t know how to play with toys or other dogs, but he loves chewing his rawhide bone and spending time with his foster brothers. He also likes exploring and burying his bone in a yard, so his ideal home should have a fenced-in outdoor area.
Neutered with current vaccinations, Dobbie needs to lose about 5 lbs., but otherwise is in excellent health, with a soft, shiny coat. He should not live with cats, children or big dogs, but he’d love a non-dominant brother or sister that is just his size or smaller. He can also be an only dog for a human who is home most of the day. Although he enjoys sleeping curled up in his bed, he has recently discovered how nice it is to sleep in the big bed with his foster parents.
Jesse ADOPTED! Jesse was running the streets and was almost hit by a car. Luckily for Jesse, a Dachshund experienced person recognized him as a Doxie and pulled over to try to get him to come to her. He was a little shy but is a very sweet, loving boy. Jesse is a very rare, very dark brindle. His brindle may be so dark, it's formed a solid color. Whatever, Jesse is a rare and beautiful boy. His pictures don't do him justice.
Jesse is approximately 18 months old, neutered, up-to-date on shots, good with other dogs and has not been tested with cats. He needs a home with a very secure yard as he is an escape artist. He would be best in a home with a family who is home a lot of the time. If confined alone, Jesse will get out and go look for his people.
Slinky ADOPTED! Slinky is a 1 1/2 year old mini black and tan neutered male who's family had to give him up.  Slinky is housebroken and up to date on shots.  Slinky sits up and begs, says his prayers, gives high 5's, spins in both directions and loves to play with a ball.  Slinky gets along with other dogs and a preferable home for Slinky would be one with another young doxie for him to play with.  Slinky is fine with children but will not be adopted to a home with children under 6 years of age.
Victor ADOPTED! Victor is a 5 year old neutered male who's owner had to go into a nursing home. The family took Victor to the local kill shelter.  Victor is very sweet and friendly, gets along well with other dogs and is fine with cats.  Victor has not been tested around young children.  He is up to date on shots and is a healthy boy.  Victor needs a new forever home.
Toots ADOPTED! Toots is a beautiful brindle one year old female doxie who's owners turned her in to the local shelter when they could no longer care for her.  Toots weighs about 11 or 12 pounds and is a very sweet girl.  She gets along with some dogs but others she growls at so she needs to be in a home with no other dogs or just one calm quiet dog.  There is no knowledge of whether or not she gets along with cats.  She seems to be fine with children.
Benny ADOPTED! Benny is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix who is approximately 3 years old.  He was rescued from the shelter on his last day.  He is neutered and up to date on shots and will have his teeth cleaned prior to his adoption.  Benny gets along well with other dogs, is fine with cats but we are told he is not good with children.  He has not yet been tested with kids in his foster home.  Benny was thin and bloated when he came from the shelter but appears to be healthy now.
Augie ADOPTED! Augie has some Beagle or Bassett in him but his body is that of a Dachsie.  His read is a beautiful light, strawberry red. Augie is no more than a year old, weighs about 15 lbs., gets along great with other dogs, is fine with cats and based on his sweet affectionate personality, we believe he will be ok with kids. Augie was found as a stray and more than likely left outside and not taught much of anything. He has already learned how to use the doggie door and is working on his housebreaking habits. Augie will be neutered and up to date on shots prior to his adoption.
Buddy ADOPTED! Buddy is a 5 year old black and tan standard male who is vision impaired.  Although Buddy can't see very well, he loves to chase and fetch his toy and bring it back for you to throw again. He finds his toy every time by smell.  Buddy is a sweet boy but needs to be in a home with no other dogs. He currently lives in a home with cats and has no problem with the cats but sometimes gets agressive with other dogs when they get too close. Buddy is housebroken and gets around very well including in and out of a doggie door.
Gracie ADOPTED! Gracie is a 6 year old brownish red with black overlay, spayed female who wore out her welcome at her previous home.  Gracie was adopted 5 years ago by a couple with no children.  Three years ago the first "new arrival" showed up and recently a second. Either Gracie is not getting the attention she once got and is jealous or she just isn't happy sharing her home with 2 babies.  Either way, Gracie has started nipping the 3 year old, and whether it's Gracie's fault or not, Gracie is the one who had to go.  Gracie is now in search of a new forever home, preferably in a home where the childbearing years are in the past.  Gracie is a sweet loveable girl, housebroken, travels well, and up to date on shots. She gets along with some dogs.  She is a little overweight and a good low fat diet should have her back in excellent shape.
Silky ADOPTED! Silky is a beautiful 2 year old red long hair male. He weighs about 12 lbs and is neutered and up to date on shots.  He was found as a stray by a wonderful man who took him in, cut out some of his knots out of his beautiful silky hair, and gave him a bath so he smells nice.  Silkly doesn't appear to understand what a loving home is. He is very sweet and loves to give kisses.  He gets along with other dogs, is ok with cats, and was fine with a little boy who walked up to him at the vet's office to pet him.  Silky is fine in the car and walks on a leash.  He appears to be ok with kids but would not be adopted to a family with toddlers.
Lexus ADOPTED! Lexus is a 3 1/2 year old red smooth female who's previous owner kept Lexus in a cage nearly all the time. For this reason, Lexus is grossly obese weighing in at 23lbs. An ideal weight for her would be 14 - 16lbs. She is currently on Lite food and should weigh less by the time of her adoption. Her new family must dedicate themselves to her weight loss in order for her to live a long healthy life.  Lexus was also hit with newspapers and yelled at all the time. Despite her awful past, she is a sweet, loving, wonderful girl. Lexus enjoys wading in the kiddie pool.  She gets along fine with other dogs. No known history of Lexus around young children or cats. Lexus is spayed and will be up to date on shots and have a badly needed teeth cleaning prior to her adoption.
Griffin ADOPTED! Griffin is approximately 4 - 5 years old and looks very much like a wire doxie. We think he is mixed with a Jack Russell.  Griffin is a very sweet loveable boy who found himself in a kill shelter.  Griffin was just recently neutered and is up to date on shots.  He gets along well with other dogs, doesn't appear to have any problem with cats and has not been "kid tested" yet.  He weighs about 12 lbs, has short legs, and a doxie body with a Jack Russell head and face. He has eyebrows like Andy Rooney.  He's an absolute sweetheart.
Lucy ADOPTED! Lucy is a 1 1/2 year old mini female doxie with a very unusual color.  She actually looks like she's much older than she is due to the silvery gray color of her head, ears and face.  Lucy is not spayed yet, but will be prior to her adoption.  She will also be up to date on her shots. She is a very sweet calm quiet girl and gets along well with dogs and cats. She lived in a house with a 1 year old baby so she tolerates kids.
